RESPONSIBILITIES
•Perform routine radiation detection instrument performance tests, radiation and contamination monitoring, taking air samples, posting, and labeling, access control, material clearance surveys, radioactive waste surveys, and higher hazard radiological work job coverage.
•Perform routine surveillances to ensure adequacy of engineering controls, characterize work areas and detect changes in radiological conditions.
•Utilize internal exposure control techniques to prevent intakes of radioactive material.
•Utilize external exposure control techniques to reduce exposure to ionizing radiation.
•Utilize contamination control techniques to prevent spread of radioactive material.
•Participates in planning radiological work to ensure radiological controls are incorporated.
•Involves a significant amount of interface with research and development, facility operations and maintenance personnel in the performance of their duties and planning of work activities to ensure procedure compliance.
•Senior RCT positions involve a significant amount of interface with research and development, facility operations, and maintenance personnel.
REQUIREMENTS:
•High School Diploma
•Must hold current Department of Energy (DOE) RCT Core Examination certification
•Minimum of 3 years of experience in operational radiological protection (Senior RCT – Level I
•Minimum of 10 years of experience in operational radiological protection (Senior RCT - Level II)
•Must be medically qualified to wear a respirator
•Must complete Senior RCT qualification program within 45 days of issue of qualification card
•Previous experience at DOE Laboratories is highly desirable
•Current registration with the National Registry of Radiation Technologists (NRRPT) is highly desirable
•Completion of an AS degree (or above) from an accredited Junior College/College/University is highly desirable
